5 ideas for improving your AI skills next year
It's been about three years since the release of ChatGPT brought artificial intelligence (AI) into our everyday lives. Whether you're a daily AI user or still wondering how to get started, the new year is a great time to take steps to expand your skill set. Here are some ideas for how you can do that.
Remember to check your organization's policies for AI use before you try any of these tips at work.
1. Just get started. If you haven't used an AI tool yet, now is the time to give one a try. A free account for personal use can be a great starting point. Stuck on what to do? Put the tool in voice mode and ask a question. For example, you could say: "I'm new to using AI. What are some things you can do for me?"
2. Experiment with a new tool. There are a number of AI tools out there, each with its own strengths. If you're mostly using one tool right now, commit to trying a different one. This can be especially useful if your current tool isn't living up to your expectations.
3. Try an agentic browser. Many experts predict that agentic browsing will play a significant role in the future of the web. It's important to see firsthand how healthcare consumers may be using these browsers to find care.
4. Use the advanced features. Getting the most out of an AI tool often means going beyond simple chats. Projects, Skills, and custom GPTs and Gems are just some of the features available in the major LLMs. Pick one from your AI tool of choice and spend some time using it. You'll find tutorials and use cases online, but often the easiest way to use one of these features is to ask the tool and let it guide you through setup.
5. Find resources that can help you stay current. Keeping up with AI news can feel overwhelming. Here are a few resources that the Coffey team finds helpful:
- Ben's Bites email newsletter: Sign up at bensbites.com.
- Axios AI+ newsletter: Sign up at axios.com/signup/ai-plus.
- AI news updates from ChatGPT. Setting this up is simple. Here's an example prompt: "Send me a weekly AI news summary every Friday at 9 a.m. Focus on healthcare use cases. Keep it to five or fewer items, and make sure to include links to the source material."
